The question relates to exchange 2010. In exchange 2010 there is no Badmail folder physically BUT the mail is NOT discarded like you said it was. Hence wrong. The info i posted is quoted from Microsoft. Go read the technet article.

Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 changes that. By default, it will handle all "badmail" in a virtual way and no data trash is accumulated. If you want to keep your badmail, you'll have changed a couple of registry settings: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMTPSVC\Queuing Value: MaxBadMailFolderSize this is the size in KB.

This is the Exchange Server 2003 SP1 default behaviour. A value of -1 will revert to pre-SP1 settings and allow messages to be written to the Badmail folder until there is no disk space left.

A company hired me to remove viruses from their exchange server. Apparently, they let the badmail folder get out of hand to 20gigs of viruses and spam. If you happen to be installing into an existing Exchange organization then the existing outbound routes for the organization will apply, and mail sent by mailboxes on your new Exchange server to external recipients will likely work.
